As part of the project “Tirana in the Eyes of State Security,” focusing on shedding light on the half-century history of Tirana as the capital under dictatorship, the Authority for Information on the Documents of the Former State Security organizes the activity “THE OPEN FILE – Analysis of the Files of Xhahit Toptani and Abdyl Këllezi,” featuring a lecture by Prof. Assoc. Dr. Gjon Boriçi from the Institute of History.
The study and research of the former State Security files concerning events and figures of the capital city Tirana are at the center of this project.
Prof. Assoc. Dr. Gjon Boriçi initially presented “Tirana and the Beginnings of the Communist System in Albania,” addressing issues such as: Tirana merchants under pressure from the communist regime in 1945; the political situation in Tirana in 1946; a detailed report on the political situation in Tirana; and the efforts of the Security service to eliminate resistance groups that had fled to the Tirana area in 1949.
From this same researcher comes the lecture: “Analysis of the Files of Xhahit Toptani and Abdyl Këllezi – addressing issues of arrest, accusations, interrogation, and post-release, based on archival documents and family testimonies.”
The event is organized in collaboration between AIDSSH, the “Tirana” Association, the Institute of History, and the European University of Tirana, with the support of the Municipality of Tirana.
